You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in Code 981, FACILITIES PLANNING & ANALYSIS BRANCH, PRODUCTION ENGINEERING & FACILITIES DIVISION, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide mechanical engineering and management services for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the Shipyard's facilities and equipment.
You will participate in project development, documentation, design, design review, specification preparation and specification review for construction oversight for Shipyard facilities to support shipyard needs3
You will oversee the coordination of technical details between various agents, including NAVSEA, NAVFAC, various shipyard codes, regulatory agencies, and military personnel for Shipyard facilities and equipment.
You will conduct feasibility studies in order to determine design solutions to specific operating requirements or problems.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
FOR THE GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying engineering technical principles, concepts, and practices;
Experience working with equipment, structures, and systems of other engineering disciplines as applicable to submarine overhaul/repair and alterations;
Experience applying conventional methods used to gather, analyze, and evaluate information concerning management processes, providing solutions, and recommending appropriate action;
Experience preparing and presenting findings and recommend solutions, including preparation and presentation of graphs and charts;
Experience operating computer applications and database software.
FOR THE GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience understanding engineering technical principles, concepts, and practices;
Experience working with equipment, structures, and systems of other engineering disciplines as applicable to submarine overhaul/repair and alterations;
Experience applying problem solving techniques used to gather, analyze, and evaluate information concerning management processes, providing solutions, and recommending appropriate action;
Experience preparing presentation of graphs and charts;
Experience using computer applications and database software.
