The Advanced Program Support Assistant serves as the main ADPAC for the Specialty Care Patient Service Line at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. The PSA is a critical member of the Telehospital Medicine Program and is essential for the coordination and support of daily operations, provides administrative assistance, and is familiar with and maintains all applicable VHA guidelines, policies, and procedures that impact the operation of the Telehospital Medicine Program.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Generate reports and documents, as requested/required for program, on local, regional, or national levels. Support program staff by maintaining personnel data/files, compiling and preparing periodic personnel reports, and assisting with physician evaluation files. Perform Timekeeping functions for staff and fee basis staff. Comprehensive knowledge of information systems, data systems, programs and applications, including telehealth technologies. Skilled in utilizing telehealth technologies and available software to connect staff, resources, providers, and patients. Knowledge of collecting, analyzing and interpreting data. Ability to use independent judgment to analyze, evaluate, and resolve issues for hub and spoke staff, as needed. Ability to function effectively between competing priorities. Ability to train new staff on available telehealth technologies, programs, and applications, and troubleshoot when issues occur with telehealth hardware/software. Ability to communicate with various employees and groups within the healthcare system to present data, request information, or provide training to staff. Maintain records management for ensuring information security, and accountability of program hardware associated with the service. Schedule staff for available shifts for multiple sites, utilizing staff requirements as guidance. Maintain, update and post these schedules accordingly. Complete invoicing and routing for select sites (accounts receivable) and staffing (accounts payable). Provides accuracy when performing work duties, and is attentive to detail at all times. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/08/2024. Applicants may qualify based on your experience as described below: GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: Understanding of a broad range of information and data systems as well as programs including telehealth technologies; Utilizing various software systems to compile/collect data, perform timekeeping functions and connect staff and patients; Performing data analysis, generating reports and preparing various correspondence; Provide training to staff as well as distribute and monitor workload and troubleshoot telehealth software/hardware issues; Familiarity with programs and services of telehealth as well as the laws, policies and regulations; Providing customer service and ability to communicate with others (This experience must be well documented in your resume and application). There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary but also requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of light to medium-heavy items. The work environment involves risks typically associated with performance of office work.
