About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) is a joint Department of Defense command responsible for processing applicants into five branches of military service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard). The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative assistance with transportation arrangements for military enlistees.
Duties
Greet visitors and applicants to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
Distribute workload among employees.
Provide technical guidance and training.
Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into military service.
Operate a keyboard to record and transcribe alpha numeric data.
Obtain fingerprints using automated systems.
Prepare travel orders and reviews accounting data for accuracy.
Administer pre-oath briefings, and briefs applicants concerning MEPS procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position requires the incumbent to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
- Some positions may have a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time which may include overnight travel.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training within 30 days of on boarding and/or as required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Reviewing applicant documents for accuracy; 2) Verifying document information with applicants through verbal and/or written communication; 3) Assembling and/or distributing applicant enlistment record packets; and 4) Maintaining records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
