You will serve as a AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SPECIALIST (CENTER) in the Air Traffic Control Division, S-3 Department of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA.

Duties

You will provide control and separation of aircraft using vector, speed and altitude separation techniques. You will provide priority assistance to aircraft in distress. You will coordinate with other Air Traffic Control Centers on Air Traffic Control issues. You will supervise administrative and training support matters pertaining to Air Traffic Control Facility. You will determine the interval to be used between successive approaching and departing aircraft taking into consideration all aspects of the Air Traffic Control situation.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Air traffic control specialists must possess the facility ratings required at the facility where the position is located. You will be required to maintain a valid Air Traffic Control Specialist and/or Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • You must possess a current Department of the Navy Class III medical certificate.
  • You must possess an FAA Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • You must possess an FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate with ARTCC rating.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing en-route control to Federal Aviation Administration sector airspace/airways, providing approach control services and controlling aircraft operating en-route along the airways to assure proper separation and safe and expeditious movement Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2100/air-traffic-control-series-2152.
