This position is located in the Nutrition Services Department of Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup, New Mexico. Provides technical support and assistance in coordinating nutritional health care and health delivery services, through the quality nutritional foods served and education provided to patients admitted to the in-patient service of Gallup Indian Medical Center.
Duties
Works with registered dietitians to provide patient counseling, education, and information that will provide tools for self-care to promote good health.
Documents assessments performed and education provided into the electronic health record and compiles/collects data for reports, program planning and patient care.
Provides patients with the basic understanding of how quality foods can improve a person's health and can continue to improve health maintenance when used on a continuous basis.
Works with registered dietitians while collecting data collections for Performance Improvement programs. Develops, implements, monitors, evaluates and re-evaluates new programs, reviews and revises old programs, as needed. Reports problems and occurrences to registered dietitians, and any other identified concerns regarding inpatient and outpatient nutrition issues
Performs meal rounds, tray testing, patient satisfaction surveys, refrigerator checks, plate waste studies, and other performance improvement related tasks, as assigned, and provides monthly reports to the Director.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: General knowledge of age-specific nutritional needs, including special consideration for infants, children adolescents and geriatric patients. General knowledge of culturally specific needs of patients, ie. Traditional diets. Knowledge of cultural food habits and preferences of Native Americans in order to incorporate desired foods into regular and modified diets and nutrition care plans.
NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required for GS-6 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
