This position is located at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC) in the Diabetes Program in the following specialties: general surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, intensive care, obstetrics (labor & delivery, postpartum and recovery), pediatrics and ophthalmology.
Duties
Provide patient education to clients with or at risk for Type 2 Diabetes; utilizes Diabetes Program curriculum materials, judgement and consultation with designated Diabetes Program Staff and Consultants as a basis for content, approach and methods concerning diabetes education.
Conducts feasibility assessments and surveys for use in program planning.
Performs limited clinical procedures as necessary in accordance with training and certification such as taking blood pressure, measuring height and weight, testing capillary blood glucose, conducting foot examinations and applying splints and casts.
Coordinates diabetes education and patient visits with other departments for the prevention of diabetes-related complications.
Provides services in the outpatient, home and community settings.
Participates in case management and abides by case management guidelines in collaboration with the Diabetes Program staff and other departmental representatives.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Reception, clerical, appointment management, patient care, hearing aid assessment and management. Ordering hearing aids, managing a hearing aid inventory, organizing/managing appointment schedules, independently perform specialized testing as requested.

One full year of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirement for GS-7. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
