This position serves as the Health Technician (Clinical Assistant) for the Division of Clinical Services, Gallup Indian Medical Center., Gallup, NM. This position requires knowledge and skills of an advanced technician with various Clinical Departments.

Duties

Provides assessment and management of ambulatory patients seen. Obtains patient health history, chief complaints, medication history, and identification of health related conditions that may impact the patient's health status. Evaluates patients for medical conditions, order appropriate diagnostic studies and perform a wide range of treatment procedures under the direction of the supervising physician, nurse or authorized health provider). Assists Clinical Department physicians with complex, specialized and potentially life threatening procedures such as defibrillation, cardio versions, insertion of chest drainage tubes, or initiation of mechanical ventilation to restore normal physiological function or prevent deterioration of patient's condition. Assists physicians with airway management under emergency situations, provides cardiac resuscitation, assisting physicians with procedures such as thoracotomy, chest tubes, invasive line placements and other tasks as appropriate. Performs dressing changes, wound management, suture removal, and repair of simple lacerations, Foley catheters insertion, splint, binder and bandage applications, and performance of tracheotomy care. Specimen collection, preparation and transfer to the lab for processing of blood, tissue, urine, stool and sputum is expected to be a routine part of his/her practice. Initiate intravenous (IVs), regulates flow rate, and monitors prescribed IV fluids. May be asked to respond to medical emergencies on the facility grounds and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT). Upon arrival at the scene, makes an independent preliminary assessment as to scene safety and patient status. Conducts and assists with the training of personnel in CPR, basic, and advanced emergency medical care techniques. Conduct or assist with stand-downs, community health programs, blood pressure and glucose screenings, flu immunizations and others. Patient transport: may transport monitored and unmonitored patients to diagnostic procedures and/or inpatient units. Performs triage duties as assigned. In this situation the incumbents need to have expertise in the use of the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage tool. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Qualification Standards are combination of Individual Occupational Requirements for this occupational series and Group Coverage Qualifications for Technical and Medical Support Positions. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above) will vary since positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled You must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-07: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include, but are not limited to, Identifies and treats trauma/medical emergencies using advanced knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques, employee identifies the signs and symptoms of life-threatening and non-life-threatening medical trauma injuries, typical of experienced or senior medical assistant or health technician positions. NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. GS-07 grade level: One full year of graduate education in an area of study directly related to the work of this position. Selective Placement Factor for candidates: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Candidates who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration Candidates must possess and provide proof of licensed Paramedic and/or Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). (You must provide a copy of your license and/or certification along with your resume) Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Education

There are no education requirements, however it you are using education, you are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades.
