You will serve as a Wood Worker in the Supply Management Department of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR JACKSONVILLE at Gulfport, MS.

Duties

You will examine/check number, type and condition of items to be packed against accompanying shipping documents or invoice to ensure correct identification and condition. You will determine the appropriate method of packing; and select the necessary lumber and packing materials required to properly pack the item in accordance with existing policy, procedure, specifications, and trade practices. You will provide technical woodworking assistance to lower-graded workers. You will construct and repair wood or fiberboard boxes, dividers, or protective framing for individual shipments or specialized storage. You will develop internal drawings and specifications to safely package odd or unusual shaped material and equipment.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license and/or government operator permit.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current 20k Forklift license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete the Naval Motor Vehicle and Railcar Inspection and the Defense Packaging of Hazardous Materials for Transportation course within 6 months of assignment to the position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORAML SUPERVISION. An example of the screen out element is: I have the ability to perform a full range of Woodworker tasks under limited supervision including: planning, constructing, and repairing a range of custom shipping and storage containers, shipping devices, and support material; combining and modifying existing plans for complex containers; measuring and cutting lumber; selecting the appropriate fastening devices, wood composite materials to build shipping and storage containers, bracing and locating other protective devices ; using shop arithmetic order to compute sizes and material requirements, developing and laying out changes to existing container plans to specifically shaped materials and bracing requirements for large and unbalanced equipment, sensitive electronic equipment, delicate instruments and heavy industrial equipment; fabricating containers and appropriate bracing for shipment of a wide variety of hazardous materials; efficiently using a wide range of standard manual and power woodworking, pneumatic and strapping tools; improvising or modify construction plans and patterns to construct custom containers and storage devices from hard/soft wood and wood composite materials; I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
