You will serve as a WOOD WORKER in the Supply Management Department of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR JACKSONVILLE at Gulfport.

Duties

You will examine/verify number, type, and condition of items to be packed against accompanying shipping documents or invoice to ensure correct identification and condition. You will construct and repair wood or fiberboard boxes, dividers, or protective framing for individual shipments or specialized storage. You will use woodworking tools and equipment to measure, cut, and manufacture shipping containers, boxes, and crates. You will provide technical advice, guidance, and woodworking assistance to lower-graded workers. You will ensure all current rules and regulations for the proper packaging of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), classified materials, and other sensitive shipments are followed.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license and/or government operator permit.
  • You will be required to obtain/maintain a 20K government Forklift License.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to complete the Naval Motor Vehicle and Railcar Inspection and the Defense Packaging of Hazardous Materials for Transportation course within 6 months of assignment to the position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. A. I have the demonstrated ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including experience planning, constructing, and repairing a full range of custom shipping and storage containers, shipping devices, and support material; Developing internal drawings and specifications to safely package odd or unusual shaped material and equipment; Measuring and cutting lumber for non-standard, skidded, trussed, and other required items; Selecting the appropriate fastening devices and wood composite materials to build shipping and storage containers; Determining appropriate box, skid or crate based on weight, size, fragility, type and destination of material; Improvising plans in order to brace and package irregular or unbalanced items by applying technical judgment; Using a wide range of standard manual and power woodworking tools and equipment; and Providing technical woodworking assistance to lower-graded workers. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. B. I have the demonstrated ability to perform the full range of tasks including experience planning, constructing, and repairing a full range of custom shipping and storage containers, shipping devices, and support material; Developing internal drawings and specifications to safely package odd or unusual shaped material and equipment; Measuring and cutting lumber for non-standard, skidded, trussed, and other required items; Selecting the appropriate fastening devices and wood composite materials to build shipping and storage containers; Determining appropriate box, skid or crate based on weight, size, fragility, type and destination of material; Improvising plans in order to brace and package irregular or unbalanced items by applying technical judgment; and Using a wide range of standard manual and power woodworking tools and equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. C. I have the demonstrated ability to perform common tasks including experience planning, constructing, and repairing a full range of custom shipping and storage containers, shipping devices, and support material; Measuring and cutting lumber for non-standard, skidded, trussed, and other required items; Selecting the appropriate fastening devices and wood composite materials to build shipping and storage containers; Determining appropriate box, skid or crate based on weight, size, fragility, type and destination of material; Improvising plans in order to brace and package irregular or unbalanced items by applying technical judgment; and Using a wide range of standard manual and power woodworking tools and equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
