Independently provides direction and support in the planning, coordinating, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software related to dept. programs and services, including networks, workstations, testing and implementation of systems initiatives and subsequent releases, all related hardware and software considerations, and systems security.
Duties
Independently troubleshoots software and hardware on multiple hardware and software platforms, e.g., Windows OS/Server, Microsoft office suite, Adobe, SSA developed applications, etc.
Contributes to the development and implementation of efficient workflow, methods, and procedures for operations that impact automated case processes in the hearings operation entity.
Takes the initiative to create applications or work with application developers to isolate and solve design problems encountered during testing and implementation stages.
Represents the organization in interactions with other organizations internal and external to the agency and provides technical leadership on group projects.
Ensures that staff members maintain compliance with vendor contract provisions and keeps appropriate records of system downtime, maintenance problems and equipment usage to support the need for reallocation or procurement of equipment.
Maintains awareness of and advises the supervisor concerning patterns of equipment, software and supply problems.
Monitors the degree to which vendors are in compliance with contract requirements and intercedes with the vendor as required.
Maintains records of all systems related equipment including the temporary and/or permanent transfer of hardware.

If you are using experience to qualify, you must have:
For GS-7: 52 weeks of full-time specialized experience independently performing most of the following tasks:supporting, or performing systems analysis, design, development, or maintenance of networks, systems, software, or applications.
For GS-9: 52 weeks of full-time specialized experience independently performing most of the following tasks: installing, testing, troubleshooting or maintaining hardware and software systems.
For GS-11: 52 weeks of full-time specialized experience independently performing most of the following tasks: the design, documentation, development, modification, testing, installation, implementation, and support of new or existing applications software.
For GS-12: Fifty-two weeks of full-time specialized experience: such experience should include direction and support in the planning, coordinating, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software related to programs and services, including networks, workstations, testing and implementation of systems initiatives and subsequent releases, all related hardware and software considerations, and systems security.
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

Education
Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
GS-7: A bachelor's degree AND superior academic achievement. The educational degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Superior academic achievement is defined as: (1) graduating with at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA; (2) graduating in the top third of the graduating class; or (3) membership in a national scholastic honor society;
OR
One full year of graduate level study, or a Master's or higher degree, e.g., Ph.D., etc., in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of the position. The educational degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
For GS-9: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
For GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent.
For GS-12: Not applicable
