You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the SHIP SAFETY BRANCH,ENGINERRING AND PLANNING DEPARMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

*Experience utilizing the submarine systems associated with hull integrity and subsafe requirements, temporary systems installation, testing and uninstall requirements, and fire prevention and control. *Experience applying knowledge of temporary systems installation, testing and uninstall requirements. *Experience interpreting the requirements of the 6010 manual for submarine Ship Safety officer positions. *Experience communicating orally and in writing with Ships Force chain of command, as incumbent shares responsibility for the safety of the ship directly with the Ships CO. *Experience integrating and coordinating a varied and complex program involving Shipyard and NAVSEA requirements to include identifying and resolving environmental/hazardous effects on ships' equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience working onboard a submarine. Experience utilizing comprehensive knowledge of the submarine systems associated with hull integrity and sub-safety requirements. Experience understanding submarine systems associated with fire prevention and control. Experience working with temporary systems installation, testing, and uninstalling requirements. Experience utilizing the 6010 manual, 8010 Manual, WTM and any supporting local instructions and must be capable of interpreting the requirements of the manual to ensure project management understands and adheres to the requirements set forth. Experience exhibiting proficient communication, both oral and written, throughout the chain of command on matters concerning ship safety and fire safety. Experience demonstrating responsibility for the safety of the ship directly with the Ships CO. Experience incumbent following and enforcing all established fire and ships safety rules and requirements. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience utilizing the 6010 manual, 8010 Manual, WTM and any supporting local instructions and must be capable of interpreting the requirements of the manual to ensure project management understands and adheres to the requirements set forth. Experience exhibiting proficient communication, both oral and written, throughout the chain of command on matters concerning ship safety and fire safety. Experience demonstrating responsibility for the safety of the ship directly with the Ships CO. Experience incumbent following and enforcing all established fire and ships safety rules and requirements.
