The primary purpose of this position is to a training technician, providing educational and support services to staff and students of the Air Force Nuclear College (AFIT/OL-A).

Duties

Assists in planning, coordinating, and scheduling academic training events, student classes, instructors, and resources. Employee utilizes knowledge of an extensive body of rules, concepts, techniques, procedures, and operations concerning the Air Force Nuclear College program curriculum to create academic education and training course materials that meet syllabus objectives for each class/student. Prepares and maintains education and training records, files, and materials. Prepares and maintains education records and enters data for account requests, course registration, completed courses, student demographics, and financial expenditures. Uses varied and advanced functions of office automation software to create, format, modify, edit and print a variety of documents and support office operations. Prepares a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports and other documents. Executes Security Assistant responsibilities. Obtains and maintains qualification in the Air Force Security Manager Program and performs Security Assistant responsibilities outlined in AFMAN 16-1404 Volume 1. Executes Facility Manager responsibilities. As the Facility Manager, ensures the care, custody, and protection of real property assigned to the Air Force Nuclear College.

  • Work may require 25% or less travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours to support the training mission.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM.
  • The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes knowledge of an extensive body of education rules, procedures, and operations to perform the wide variety of education technician work related to the College's mission and objectives, and to resolve a wide range of issues using accepted practices. Knowledge of the organization's operations and functions sufficient to evaluate information gathered from various sources and use basic analytical methods and techniques to determine adequacy of, or deficiencies in the scheduling function. Knowledge of locally-established program objectives and practices requiring extended experience to initiate, plan, and coordinate interrelated technician activities. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. In-depth knowledge of assigned education programs covering a broad range of functional areas of expertise. Knowledge of an extensive body of education and training policies, rules, procedures, and operations to perform the wide variety of education technician work and resolve a wide range of problems. Knowledge of education and training organizational structure, protocol, and similar matters. Knowledge of locally established program objectives, priorities, and practices requiring extended experience to initiate, plan, and coordinate interrelated technician/clerical activities. 2. Knowledge of security manager and facility manager procedures and responsibilities. 3. Knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures, grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, formatting, rules, procedures, and operations applicable to clerical assignments to prepare/review routine correspondence/reports and perform clerical procedures to arrange a variety of material from different sources and other administrative work of organization. 4. Skill in use of automation software and related equipment to enter, maintain, and retrieve curriculum data and to compile reports, produce charts and graphs, and monitor project/curriculum status. Advance knowledge of personal computers and computer programs/software (Microsoft Office suite) to perform non-routine functions such as preparation of reports using database and spreadsheet software, and basic troubleshooting. A qualified typist is required. 5. Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to administrative support, including locally developed equipment operating and document processing instructions, which are directly applicable to the work. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy to maintain effective work relationships. 6. Ability to analyze problems to verify and correlate basic data for processing travel requests, vouchers, and verify accuracy of computer output education and training products. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
