Duties

Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to provide appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Center. Duties: Provides developmentally appropriate care and education for children. Responsible to ensure that care provided is in compliance with Child Development guidelines. Responsible for daily planning in assigned area. Responsible for parent involvement in assigned area. Responsible for health and safety or children in assigned area. Responsible for room arrangement and supplies for assigned area.

  • This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program.
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments.
  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
  • Occasionally rotates through various program development functions and duties such as inspections and reports.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Must possess maturity and good judgment and like working with young children and their families.
  • Must provide evidence of required immunizations; and be able to successfully complete required physical exam, including the ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
  • Work requires, but is not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
  • The position is identified as having "regular contact with children," requiring a National Agency Check, a State Criminal History Records Check and an Installation Records Check. Installation Records Check is reestablished every five years.
  • Must complete all training requirements including child abuse prevention, recognizing and reporting, customer service and appropriate guidance.
  • Required to attend training sessions and special openings conducted on the weekends and evening hours.
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: 1) knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation for working with young children and ability the to interpret and follow written instructions; 2) knowledge of childhood development policies, regulations, procedures and processes; 3) skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing using tack and courtesy when working with parents and other caregivers; 4) ability to promote and foster effective relationships with children, common to a child development environment; 5) skill in carrying out plans and activities to enhance the development of children; 6) ability to establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. OR EDUCATION: Applicants must have successfully completed four (4) years of education above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicants have a combination of specialized experience and education that when combined total at least 100%. Note: you MUST submit a copy of your transcript(s). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation for working with young children and ability the to interpret and follow written instructions. 2. Knowledge of childhood development policies, regulations, procedures and processes. 3. Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing using tact and courtesy when working with parents and other caregivers. 4. Ability to promote and foster effective relationships with children, common to a child development environment. 5. Skill in carrying out plans and activities to enhance the development of children. 6. Ability to establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
