About the Position: Provides administrative and technical military personnel support for the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Army University, Office of the Chief of Staff, and its subordinate organizations. Principal areas of responsibility include the maintenance of military personnel records, in and out processing, leaves and passes, soldier finance and leave actions, and military awards.
Duties
As a Human Resources Assistant (Military/Office Automation), you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for all inquiries regarding the Army Leave and Pass program and local policies and procedures.
Receive and process all leave forms, for submission to the Finance Office.
Responsible for the reconciliation of the monthly Unit Commanders Finance Report (UCFR).
Serve as the custodian of military personnel records data for military service members assigned to the Office of the Provost and locally supported schools/organizations.
Coordinate, research, and process a wide range of personnel actions for all assigned and attached Active Army Reserve or National Guard officer and enlisted personnel.
Update and monitor duty status for 350+ officers and enlisted personnel, coordinates initial and final out-processing appointments with Adjutant General (AG) office, submits and monitors the status of LEVY packets.
Actively participate in the day-to-day office management.
Using e-mail, word processing and associated software and hardware, prepare a wide variety of correspondence and messages, decision papers, briefings and reports.
Serve as primary POC for processing military awards and decorations as well as civilian honorary awards and certificates.
Operate, manipulate, and maintain various personnel records systems, including but not limited to Integrated Personnel and Pay System-Army (IPPS-A), iPERMS, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent may be expected to perform temporary duty (TDY) for approximately 10% of the time.
- This position requires the services of a qualified typist.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes scheduling and coordinating meetings, maintaining a calendar/schedule, gathering data for reports, using various automation applications, proofreading/editing correspondence and/or technical documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resources/Personnel, Business, Business Admin, or Business Management. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) (NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of ALL your transcripts.)
Typing Proficiency: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Please see the specific instructions regarding supporting documentation for Time in Grade requirements in the REQUIRED DOCUMENTS section, below.
NOTE: Applicants must meet all Time-in-Grade requirements and experience requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
