The Primary Purpose of this Position is: Provides secretarial support to the Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics & Extended Care (ACOS/GEC) and the Administrative Officer (AO).
The Organizational Location of the Position is: Geriatrics & Extended Care, Dallas, TX VA North Texas Health Care System.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Serves as secretary to the Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics & Extended Care and the Administrative Officer. Incumbent also provides secretarial assistance to other sections of GEC in the absence of secretarial support.
Receives incoming calls to the Geriatrics & Extended Care Office, directs appropriate personnel, screens calls for the ACOS/GEC and AO, provides information to callers when she/he deems it appropriate to the assistance of the ACOS/GEC or AO.
Maintains calendars for the ACOS/GEC and AO and has authority to arrange meetings, time, place and attendance.
Prepares requests for travel and/or attendance at meetings for ACOS/AO GEC; makes airline and hotel reservations and inquiries by telephone. Completes tuition/travel requests for submission to appropriate authority.
Attends meetings as indicated, takes formal minutes, types, reproduces and distributes these as specified. Prepares agendas for meetings chaired by the ACOS/GEC or the AO.
Prepares all correspondence originating in the O rough draft, medical and administrative correspondence utilizing word processing and security guidelines; using word processing function of personal computer (PC) incumbent types, in final form reports required locally, memoranda, administrative correspondence, professional correspondence, vitae, research manuscripts, research proposals, and other related material.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/08/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Maintains and establishes current files such as records, correspondence, publications and equipment needs; Consistently communicates and treats customers in a courteous tactful and respectful manner.; Ability to receive, resolve, and appropriately respond to patient inquiries.; Ability to adapt to changing priorities and/or the ability to handle multiple projects.; Prepares all correspondence for GEC.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
