About the Position: The incumbent of this position will serve as a paraprofessional member of a surgical team within an operating room environment in the performance of scrub and/or circulating operating room duties.
Work hours will support the 24/7 hospital mission which includes shift work, extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends. Recruitment or relocation incentives MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates.

Duties
Transport patients from hospital units to the operating room.
Position patient for the specific surgical procedures according to established guidelines.
Hand instruments to the surgeon during the procedure by anticipating the surgeon's needs.
Select, assemble, and organize required supplies, equipment, and instruments for specific surgical procedures.
Obtain supplies needed during surgery such as blood, drugs, solutions, instruments, and additional sterile supplies.
Wash, disassemble, sterilize, and reassemble instruments after surgical procedure is complete.
Assemble operating room carts according to scheduled surgical procedures.
Clean operating room after surgical procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a favorable result from a National Agency Background Check with inquiries (NACI).
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

- This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct. 96, which requires the incumbent to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

- This position requires incumbent to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- This position requires the incumbent to work on a regular and reoccurring shift rotation schedule.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing patient care before, during, or after surgical procedures; acting as a circulator and scrub technician in an operating room environment by preparing, assembling, organizing, or sterilizing medical supplies, equipment, or instruments for surgeries; and/or maintaining the cleanliness of the operating suite.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Nursing and Healthcare Administration.

Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
