This position is located at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan. The Transportation Assistant provides administrative support associated with the Beneficiary Travel Program for the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center. The incumbent works directly with the Veteran Transportation Program , aligned under the Business Office.

Duties

Major duties of this position will include, but are not limited to: Communicates effectively with internal and external contacts. Collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of Beneficiary Travel Correctly determines eligibility for the Beneficiary Travel Program and process requests. Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system. Maintains automated system of program-specific data to track items such as service project milestones, progress reports, program trends, performance measures, compliance strategies, etc. Processes BT mileage reimbursement requests, assigning the correct Fund Control Point (FCP) to each transaction. . Plans for, organizes, administers, and directs how the work will be accomplished for the Beneficiary Travel Plans and directs programs that provide support services functions and require the application of specialized knowledge and skills. Daily validate program workload and ensure reporting is accurate. Responds to "action required" notifications, ensuring the primary providers are correct. Coordinates the day-to-day operation of Beneficiary Travel program flow, processes, and functions. Provides advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services assist in accomplishing their missions and programs. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/02/2024. ?Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.? You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Interacting with various transportation service personnel. Answering questions/resolve concerns with patients, family members, medical staff. Entering data into specialized software program to create and process mileage reimbursement claims for eligible beneficiary's. Worked with several computer-based applications e.g., excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe and document scanners. Answering telephones assisting customers, resolving customer complaints and customer service skills. Navigating and documenting in electronic health record. Understanding of the health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
