The Lead Transportation Assistant will operate within the Veteran Transportation Program located at the Saginaw VA Medical Center, with Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The incumbent reports directly to the Veteran Transportation Program Mobility Manager. The Lead Transportation Assistant would lead staff within the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) and Beneficiary Travel (BT) department.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Distribute and balance workload among employees in accordance with established workflow and rotation schedule.
Ensure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
Keep in touch with the status and progress of work and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the VTS Mobility Manager on problems that may arise.
Give on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Instruct employees on changes in work procedures. Provide written instructions/documentation of changes.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling. Collect, tracking data and statistical information in support to transportation. Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. Enters and maintains automated system of program-specific data to track items such as service project milestones, progress reports, program trends, performance measures, compliance strategies, etc. Plans and directs programs that provide support services functions e.g. systems management, operations, workload forecasting, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc.)

Physical Requirements: The Lead Transportation Assistantworks in a well-lit, ventilated, office setting. Duties require sitting a PC/computer most of the 8-hour tour of duty in an ergonomic appropriate environment while assisting customers. Incumbent works in the hospital and uses multiple computer systems as well as other electronic based programs. The incumbent may meet angry and potentially violent customers.
Position requires a high level of concentration and coordination.
