This position is organizationally located in the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Section of the Business Office, providing administrative support for the Medical Center's Beneficiary Travel Pay program. The Beneficiary Travel Pay Transportation Assistant is responsible for processing the requests for travel reimbursement for eligible Veterans to and from authorized VA and authorized VA community care appointments.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Verifies all proper documentation is approved and completed prior to reimbursement of meals and lodging.
Responsible for mailing denials letters to Veterans with the appropriate reason of denial when necessary..
Make recommendations to management for modifications, expansion, or other aspects for the program's development.
Coordinate with all VISN 10 facilities and communicates to Mobility Manager to develop uniform and streamlined processes.
Communicate regularly with referral sources to identify any problematic issues and intervenes when needed.

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri; 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/27/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-5, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Determine beneficiary travel eligibility;
Process beneficiary travel pay requests;
Record proper documentation in the patients electronic health record;
Develop additional referral sources to ensure continuous influx of patients into the system;
Identify and establish relationships with community sources for potential travel referrals, as well as keeping them informed of services offered at the VA.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions, and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
