You will serve as a ELECTRICIAN in the Public Works Department of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII.

Duties

You will cut, thread and bend conduit, pull wire through conduit, splice wire or terminating schedules, conduit inspection of related facilities, perform maintenance service diagnoses system or equipment malfunctions and repairs as necessary. You will work from work orders, oral instructions, and wiring diagram, maintains and repairs lighting fixtures and wiring, power fixtures, wiring, and/or fire alarm systems. You will repair or modify by replacing worn or bad switches, relays, and outlets, by unscrewing or cutting wiring from connections. You will inspect, maintain, clean, repair, test, and adjust a variety of equipment, circuitry, and fixtures such as, electrical buzzer and bell circuits and light sockets. You will use hand tools and a small variety of test equipment such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, test lamps, and amp meters.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must be able to become CPR certified.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain current licenses to operate Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG), Bucket Truck and or construction equipment.
  • May require special certifications or license if assigned work requires special certification or licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools or equipment.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • You may work from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, requiring long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, stretching and working in awkward, cramped, tiring and uncomfortable positions.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Repairing existing electrical systems in facilities; 2) Making repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring; 3) Reading and following wiring diagrams that specify where wiring, fixtures, and controls are installed or to be used; 4) Troubleshooting electrical problems. **NOTE: This experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for the position .** Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
