Duties
This Visual Information Specialist position is located in the Strategic Communications & Public Affairs (SCPA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include, but are not limited to:
Serves as an SCPA visual information specialist supporting media relations, strategic communications, web and social media divisions.
Employs modern communication principles for effective communication, including digital media technology (Adobe Creative Cloud), web content, video/multimedia, and social media.
Works with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts to determine requirements and develop products to communicate TSA programs, activities, and initiatives to employees and the public.
Identifies opportunities to optimize communication processes, recommending improved techniques and increased efficiencies, and processes studies to improve performance.
Develops and creates products including document layouts, infographics, web graphics, brochures, factsheets, flyers and logos; makes final reviews of proposed visual communication for style, design, layout, flow and branding aspects; and ensures compliance with Section 508 Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Plain Writing Act of 2010 requirements before release.
Qualifications
To qualify for the SV-I Pay Band (equivalent to GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-H or GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is defined as:
Utilizing digital and print media (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, online content, social media, and interactive media) to create products (e.g., mobile and web graphics, annual reports, infographics, brochures, fact sheets, posters, environmental signage, motion graphics); AND
Identifying, planning, analyzing, and creating solutions to visual communication materials to present clear messages.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
