The non-supervisory Administrative Officer works under the direct supervision of the Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine and Geriatrics/Extended Care (ACOS) and serves as principle administrative official for the Medicine and Geriatrics/Extended Care Service. This position acts as an extension of the ACOS in developing programs, procedures, and policies; responsible for effectively dealing with employees of all skill levels; and Performance Improvement.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Supports the Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine and GEC (Geriatric and Extended Care) in performing a full range of human resource management requirements within Medicine/GEC such HR functions as; recruitments, promotions, awards, staff disciplinary actions, providing comprehensive administrative and managerial assistance to other support staff, and developing the necessary tracking documents to capture GEC human resources and services.
Performs frequent analysis of workload, GEC workload data, resource allocation, program effectiveness, and advises Chief, GEC on information gathered.
Supports planning efforts in implementing new directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and procedures.
Establishes administrative controls aimed at ensuring remedial actions are completed as proposed.
Identifies problems, which involve new or revised policies or procedures and brings them to the attention of GEC leadership for appropriate action.
Provides comprehensive administrative and managerial assistance on proposed solutions that would enhance quality patient care and resource utilization.
Assists in special analytical studies designed to resolve critical programmatic, organizational or functional problems.
Participates and oversees developing plans to achieve national performance measures.
Prepares and contributes to reports and other presentations on program planning and evaluation.
Prepares written recommendations and deliver briefings on his/her findings and recommendations to Leadership.
Oversees the quality and quantity of staff to provide follow-up to important actions required by the service.
Ensures that records, minutes, and schedules are maintained by the administrative staff.
Coordinates, prepares and submits all required reports and Action Items.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM, subject to change based on the needs of the facility

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/29/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

To qualify at the GS-9 grade, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level or higher and/or meet educational requirements or a combination of specialized experience and education.
Specialized Experience:
Establishes communication between different entities involved in all patient care
Experience in planning, directing and coordinating administrative functions
Experience utilizing concepts, principles and practices of G&EC
OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B.or J.D., if related (transcripts required).
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education as described above which totals in excess of the first year or in excess of 18 credit hours. (Transcripts required).
To qualify at the GS-11 grade, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level or higher and/or meet educational requirements or a combination of specialized experience and education.
Specialized Experience:
Experience utilizing concepts, principles, and practices of therapeutic recreation.
Establishes a plan and implements recreational activities and outings.
Arranges general exercise programs and exercise equipment and safety factors in demonstrating and observing use of exercise equipment.
Work one-on-one with individual to determines their degree of interaction with activities what action may be needed to enhance their participation.
Identify difficult recreational assistance problems where conditions must be identified and addressed (such as ability for each individual to participate safely in planned events and programs and the physical transportation concerns of the individual to an event).
OR,
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR,
Combination: Combination of specialized experience as described above, and graduate education as described above which totals in excess of the second year or an excess of 36 credit hours (transcripts required).
