As a Staff Assistant at the GS-0301-7/9 level (Full Promotion Potential GS-11), you will be part of RS/Retirement Policy, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will manage the Retirement Policy office and coordinate the efforts of the office in developing and evaluating alternative actions and in carrying through on the decisions of the Chief.
Duties
Provides administrative support to the Chief.
Screens callers and visitors to the office.
Maintains the calendar of the Chief.
Manages the flow and timeliness of decision packages and controlled mail to the office.
Performs research to obtain information needed for the completion of projects.
Qualifications
For the GS-07:
You must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing 3 of the 4 following tasks: 1) Acting as a primary point of contact for an office by greeting visitors, accepting calls, or monitoring incoming mail and email correspondence; 2) Preparing presentations, reports, or correspondence when performing computer operations; 3) Maintaining appointments or schedules for Leadership while considering the workload, availability, and priorities; and 4) Assisting with travel and lodging arrangements to include preparing staff travel orders and vouchers. (Note: Your resume must fully support this experience. You must list beginning and end dates and hours worked per week on your resume to receive credit for your experience.)
OR
Have completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree AND meet the Superior Academic Achievement criteria based on one of the following: (1) class standing (upper third standing in graduating class); (2) grade-point average (2.95 overall or over the last two years of bachelor's degree -or- 3.45 in my major field or over the last two years in my major); or (3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society and meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (Note: Please submit copies of college transcripts and documentation of class rank or national scholastic honor society membership if qualifying on that basis.)
OR
Have one full year of graduate level study. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Have a combination of graduate education and experience to qualify at this level. To calculate your percentage of education, divide the number of graduate semester hours earned by 18. If your education is in quarter hours, convert to semester hours by multiplying the number of quarter hours earned by 2/3rds. To calculate your percentage of experience, divide the number of months of full-time experience by 12. If your experience was part-time, convert to full-time by dividing the number of hours worked per week by 40 then multiply by number of months worked. Add the percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts.)
For the GS-09:
You must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing 3 of the 4 following tasks: 1) Acting as a primary point of contact for an office by greeting visitors, accepting calls, or monitoring incoming mail and email correspondence; 2) Ensuring correct spelling, grammar or format when creating presentations, reports, or other correspondence; 3) Maintaining appointments or schedules for Leadership while considering the workload, availability, and priorities; and 4) Making travel and lodging arrangements to include preparing staff travel orders and vouchers. (Note: Your resume must fully support this experience. You must list beginning and end dates (month and year) and hours worked per week on your resume to receive credit for your experience.)
OR
Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in business, public administration, management, or a directly related field of study which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Have a combination of education and experience to qualify at this level. To calculate your percentage of education, divide the number of graduate semester hours earned, in excess of 18 semester hours, by 18. If your education is in quarter hours, convert to semester hours by multiplying the number of quarter hours earned by 2/3rds. Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F:
One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level.
One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.
You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
