This position is located in the Outpatient Department of the Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC), Polacca, Arizona. The incumbent evaluates the nursing needs of patients, develops a plan of care, schedules daily nursing assignments (implement and modifies assignments as needs change) and delegates duties to appropriate personnel. The incumbent participates in the evaluation of the quality of patient care in the ambulatory care setting.
Duties
As Lead Nurse, provides guidance to Clinical Nurses on the floor, Certified Medical Assistants, and Medical Support Assistants working in Appointments. Provides guidance and direction to Ancillary Departments, other Nurses and Health Care providers as needed.
Leads the team in: identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization; making adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishments of assigned team tasks; and ensuring that each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product.
Prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required and coordinates the preparation, presentation and communication of work-related information to the supervisor.
Lead the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provide leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made (e.g. in work methods, processes and procedures).
Serves as Clinical Nurse performing nursing duties for patients as needed. Assesses the patient and develops a plan of care for individual patients by interviewing the patient and family members, reviewing the patient's health record, determining and evaluating the kind of physical and health care needed.
Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in Ambulatory Care specific nursing knowledge and practice through continuing education to include: specific certifications (BLS, ACLS, and PALS), staff meeting attendance, attendance of outside and in-house workshops, especially mandatory training events.
Works closely with the Care Teams and other health professionals to support Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH), by partnering in creative, innovative, and forwarding thinking ways to be cost conscious, improve quality, and achieve optima wellness for the patients we serve.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-10: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: Carrying out duties of providing professional nursing duties for patients, who are critically ill and provides nursing care to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and socio-cultural needs of the critically ill patient and family; Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating health care for intensive/coronary patients. Assess, schedule and delegate duties of Nursing staff, Certified Assistants and Medical Support Assistants by providing guidance and direction as needed.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
