The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to an Air Force approved training program with on-the-job training and guidance for further student technical development.

Duties

Performs selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of Engineering. Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Competitive Service Student Trainee Positions EDUCATION: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. (Must submit transcripts with resume package). The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices in the technical area of Engineering. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject matter field. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment Must be at least 16 years of age Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying accredited institution Must sign a Participant Agreement You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an approved program Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree (Junior/Senior only), Graduate or Professional Degree Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate) Have a good academic standing (no less than 2.95 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale) Meet the qualification standards of the position This position is established under the provisions of the Pathways Program PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
