The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to the Pathways Internship Program with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development.
Duties
Perform selected tasks and phases of studies and projects that require application of basic theory and principles in the area of engineering.
Analyze information or data gleaned from project results, documents project findings, and prepares reports of findings.
Attend meetings to observe interactions and understand working relationships with customers, specialists, and other organizational points of contact.
Participate in the evaluation of project results and makes recommendations for improvement in study and project procedures.
Use software such as word processing, spreadsheets, program language, plotting software, etc., to facilitate work.

- Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid
- This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Competitive Service Student Trainee Positions.
EDUCATION: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS WITH RESUME PACKAGE).
The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the basic theories, concepts, principles, and methodology of engineering.
2. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments.
3. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format.
4. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions.
5. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field.
6. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment
Must be at least 16 years of age
Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying accredited institution
Must sign a Participant Agreement
You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an approved program
Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree (Junior/Senior only), Graduate or Professional Degree
Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)
Have a good academic standing (no less than 2.95 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale)
Meet the qualification standards of the position
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
