You will serve as a DOMESTIC ANIMAL CONTROL in the Domestic Animal Control and Parking Enforcement Office, Services Section, of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA.

Duties

You will perform periodic patrols of the installation for stray, abandoned or neglected animals, capturing animals and transporting them to the local animal shelter. You will investigate reports of animal bites or aggression, immediately responding to and isolating/controlling and detaining animal until appropriate action is taken. You will respond and investigate reports of animal abuse and neglect. You will initiate corrective action to protect the animal if there is evidence of abuse or neglect. You will document and report abusive or neglect incidents. You will evaluate animals for suspected medical conditions and ensure a safe and clean living condition. You will administer the Installations and Environment Department's Feral Trapping Program, for cats and dogs.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  • You may be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the Installation Commander, in accordance with USMC and DoD policy.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, work includes assignment to a rotating shift, including weekend, and holidays. Overtime and/or unusual hours may be required. This position requires shift work.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be 18 years of age.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You must pass a written deadly force test prior to being issued Oleoresin Capsicum (OC Spray).
  • Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination.

Qualifications

GS-05:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing investigative and administrative support pertaining to the handling, control and transportation of stray, wild, domestic, abandoned, neglected, and/or abused animals. GS-04:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of general experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. General experience must demonstrate the following: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work indicating the ability to acquire knowledge and skills for handling the control and transportation of animals. Education

GS-05:Successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

GS-04:High school education or equivalent
