About the Position: This position works with a group of engineers who are engaged in projects related to mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering design and rehabilitation work for features of hydroelectric powerhouses and auxiliary structures. Applies a specialized practical knowledge of engineering principles, methods and techniques acquired through extensive experience and on-the-job training to plan and develop the more complex features assigned to the subsection.
Duties
Work with engineers to develop design alternatives and basic design features to be proposed in general and detailed design memoranda by researching available information on the structure and equipment and planning and developing the equipment layout.
Work with an engineer to develop preliminary and final contract plans and for mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.
Perform field visits to hydroelectric power projects to determine design requirements for the repair, replacement or improvements of existing mechanical and electrical systems and equipment, or to ascertain as-constructed conditions.
Works with a group of engineers who are engaged in projects related to mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering design and rehabilitation work for features of hydroelectric powerhouses and auxiliary structures.
Apply a specialized practical knowledge of engineering principles, methods and techniques acquired through extensive experience and on-the-job training to plan and develop the more complex features assigned to the subsection.

Specialized Experience (GS-08): One year of specialized experience which includes experience using computer drafting software to assist higher graded technicians and engineers to prepare detailed contract drawings to Architect/Engineering/Construction (A/E/C) and National Computer Aided Drafting/Design (CADD) Standards for multiple engineering disciplines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years (27 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral Degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Design/Drafting.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18)
by 9. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience (GS-09): One year of specialized experience which includes experience using computer drafting software to create 3D models and develop detailed contract drawings from the models for multiple engineering disciplines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Design/Drafting.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience (GS-10) : One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD), 3D modeling, and other Computer Aided Engineering tools to develop detailed models and develop detailed contract drawings of complex structures or machinery for multiple engineering disciplines and utilizing automated systems such as Microsoft Access and Bentley ProjectWise. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
