Duties
As the Law Enforcement and Community Outreach Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), you will join a team responsible for carrying out the public safety mission of the Department of Justice and USAO in the District of Maryland.
Typical work assignments for this position include:
Facilitating the development and implementation of the Office's overall outreach and engagement program, including developing strategies that foster communication and partnerships with public safety agencies and others who serve communities.
Initiating and maintaining direct contacts with specialized groups, non-governmental organizations, law enforcement/public safety agencies, governmental entities, and individuals in the community to support public safety, communities, and prevention and intervention goals.
Communicating orally and in writing and providing issue analysis, recommendations and advice to the United States Attorney and other relevant staff on public and law enforcement engagement.
Coordinating with public safety agencies and others who serve communities, which may involve convening groups, meetings, and events to address specific challenges, concerns, needs, and solutions to support communities, prevention and intervention goals, and public safety.
Identifying, compiling, analyzing, and organizing information for oral and written report and decision making. Written materials include simple to complex strategic plans, presentations, training agendas, and funding proposals for specific district projects and initiatives.
Serving as a grant-related subject matter expert for the USAO as well as increasing awareness about DOJ grant programs, solicitations and training/technical assistance that will advance training and programs within the district.
Working in conjunction with the District's Executive Staff to pursue and achieve strategic objectives pertaining to the vision and mission of the U.S. Attorney's Office and Department of Justice, which also involves working closely with key internal program coordinators to promote and collaborate on priority issues, including but not limited to violent crime, human trafficking, and civil rights.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications
GS-12
To be qualified at the GS-12 level, applicants must specifically demonstrate in their resume that they have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Developing project/program plans and milestones/deliverables to prevent crime or improve public safety and overseeing implementation through a task force/working group; AND
Effectively communicating and collaborating with federal and municipal/county law enforcement representatives or agencies, particularly those that are external to the agency, through regular contact and for the direct purpose of resolving a challenge; AND
Planning community outreach activities in collaboration with community groups and representatives of agencies and organizations that provide education, social services, or similar support to communities.
