Duties
Duties included but are not limited to:
Performs all preventative maintenance, operational checks, repair, layout installation, troubleshooting, tracing, locating defects, modification on all new and existing electrical systems VA wide, electrical generators and fire suppression systems.
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment in accordance with CFR 19910.331-5 and the National Electric Code (NEC).
Accurately bends and installs EMT, rigid, flex and PVC conduits for installation of electric systems.
Determines the proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems equipment and controls.
Plan and lay out the routing, placement, type and size of wire.
Ensures continuity, tests and balances electrical loads.
Determines size, type and arrangement to meet applicable codes for the safe operation of electrical systems, circuits and equipment.
Works from plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, repair manuals and related codes.
Uses appropriate safety equipment and follows standard safety procedures while performing the varied duties of this position.
Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations.
Determines and places distribution panels, branch panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and install wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances.
Understands the principals of grounding and bonding and how this is installed throughout all electrical distribution systems according to the National Electric Code.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places. This requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts an d carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and, less often, up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally, incumbent will lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 Kilograms.
