Requirements

• Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.

DUTIES: As a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (NGT5247000), GS-2210-11, you will function as a technical specialist on issues relating to the wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) systems and their integration in the network. The work involves network administration, optimization and performance in support of the supports the state's wide area command and control integrated network. TEMPORARY PROMOTION / INDEFINITE: This position is advertised against a valid man-year of an employee currently on an Active-Duty tour. An applicant selected for this Temporary position will occupy a full-time position with a specific time limitation of not-to-exceed 2 year or may be terminated or extend at any time by management decision. A technician in this type of appointment does not work towards permanent tenure and can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. The permanent status of a current permanent employee will not change in the event of a selection for a position that is being announced as indefinite. If a current permanent employee is selected, the position will be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Change to Lower Grade. Employee serving under a temporary promotion may not retain a grade or rate of basic pay held during the temporary promotion. If a new hire is selected, the position will be filled as an Indefinite Appointment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower-level GS-09 or the equivalent THIRTY-SIX (36) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as performing a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks; executing procedures and coordinating corrective action to optimize network performance; installing, configuring and monitoring tested and evaluated software packages that provide performance measurements of the WAN/LAN; implementing the standard configuration software loads for all network devices; utilizing benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload; working with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems; using remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files; configuring hubs and switches; monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns and installing network software fixes and upgrades.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Major study--computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer may substitute for (6) months of specialized experience.
