This position serves as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic within the Facilities Management Department, Maintenance and Operations Section at the VA Health Care Center St. Cloud, MN. The candidate is responsible for performing maintenance and repair to air conditioning units, air handling units, walk-in coolers, ice making machines, refrigerated tray carts, and such other equipment and/or systems as may be assigned.
Duties
Makes regularly scheduled preventive maintenance inspections on a recurring basis of air conditioning, refrigeration and air handling equipment, including electronic and pneumatic controls located throughout the VA Campus.
Candidate is responsible for the maintenance and repair of ice machines and water fountains.
Candidate should possess the skills to identify repairs needed to all system components such as: compressors, motors, belts, condensers, cooling coils, receivers, fans, piping, valves, dryers, controls, pumps, and air filters.
Responsible for the window air conditioning unit maintenance and repair (seasonal-work).
Assists in the installation of the above equipment and associated systems.
Familiarization with duct fabrication and system design, including fire dampers and damper requirements per code would be beneficial.
Responsible for the monitoring, updating, inventorying and location of campus refrigeration and space temperature monitoring system and associated refrigerated equipment.
Maintains an accurate inventory, location, use and parameters of this equipment is to be kept up to date in the facilities Building Management System (BMS, otherwise known on campus as Metasys). Monitored equipment includes, but is not limited to: medical use refrigerators and freezers (particularly the blood-bank units), patient food refrigerators and freezers, lab refrigerators and freezers as well as other coolers and equipment, and critical space monitoring.
Responsible for maintaining filters and filtration for all equipment assigned.
Required to perform maintenance and repair to the facilities bowling equipment.
For all equipment assigned, maintain parts and materials inventory for standard preventative maintenance and repair duties.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: Occasionally may lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work is performed from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Occasionally required to work from an aerial lift platform in hard to reach places. Includes physical exertion related to actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes; and physical effort related to movements such as walking, running, climbing, crawling and bending. Possible exposure to strain related to lack of movement such as standing in one place, crouching or stooping for extended periods of time.

EPA CERTIFICATION: In accordance with 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F, EPA, people working in this type of position must have and maintain proper EPA Certifications for working with refrigerants. You must have these EPA Certification Types I, II and III in order to meet the requirements of this position.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Preferred Experience: Experience working with air conditioning equipment to include split-systems, window air conditioning, reclaim evacuation, recharge system, and solder/braze.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
