This position is the contracts safety manager for the Command. Knowledge and experience in construction safety and associated regulation and compliance is desired. Supporting the field offices, specifically those that oversee construction and base operating support contracts on safety related matters is part of the job duties. NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties
You will advise higher level management on any Safety and Occupational Health matters to support operations.
You will manage a Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses through hazard prevention and control.
You will develop a safety and occupational health training program so personnel have the necessary knowledge to perform duties safely.
You will discuss safety and occupational health policy matters with various technical representatives to incorporate Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices and procedures in manuals, directives, and other instructions.
You will research technical data and material for adapting to create new criteria and guidance to meet unusual problems encountered in high risk safety settings.
You will advise and recommend changes in design of work programs to meet new safety and occupational health standards.

- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes during periodic inspections and development and evaluation of hazard controls.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Managing an Occupational Health Program by applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, standards, procedures, and abatement measures; 2)Preparing, justifying, and administering the Command safety budget with financial planning responsibility for Command safety program needs; 3) Managing the effectiveness of health and safety programs and practices designed to prevent injury to personnel and loss of property in the industrial work environment; 4) Reviewing plans, designs, and specifications for operations and facilities to identify proper hazardous controls; 5) Developing command policy on a wide range of safety and occupational health activities inherent to Occupational Safety and Health programs.
