The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and administer the executive support functions of the Operations Group (OG). This position supports the Group Commander (O-6) with a variety of workflow and administrative functions and taskings, requiring analytical and evaluative ability of proposed methods and procedures for business processes performed.

Duties

Serve as Administrative, Executive Advisor, and Program Evaluator within the Operations Group. Plan and organize executive support services, functions, and activities. Prepare and deliver presentations such as briefings, training sessions, and consultations with serviced Commander(s), other staff agencies and functional areas to secure cooperation, resolve controversial matters and convey information and participate in special studies and projects relating to planning, coordinating, and analyzing the effectiveness/efficiency of program goals. Serve as the focal point for all requirements coming into and out of the Operations Group and advise the Operations Group Commander, Deputies and Squadron Leadership. Perform other clerical and administrative work in support of the office/organization.

  • The work is generally sedentary, although there may be some walking or standing for short periods of time. Bending or carrying of light loads of papers, books, reports and other items will require moderate physical ability and physical stress.
  • The work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
  • Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes: specialized experience at the next lower grade, analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and knowledge of a substantial body of administrative or program principles, concepts, policies, and objectives. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. OR EDUCATION: I have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree requirements or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. This education was directly related to the work of the position and provided me with the knowledge, skills, and ability to do the work of this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed, qualifying education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Specialized experience directly related to the work of the position may be used to meet the requirements of this position. One full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-07 level. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge and understanding of management principles, practices, program goal, objectives, and skill in integrating management services and various entities involved in the overall administrative duties. 2. Knowledge and ability to conduct projects and prepare solutions to resolve problems and issues of effectiveness and efficiency of work. 3. Knowledge of management principles and processes of methods needed for execution in improving organization effectiveness and efficiency. 4. Skills to perform and provide oversight of a variety of administrative and staff management activities. 5. Ability to interpret and apply rules and procedures, ability to deal with very sensitive issues and handle with discretion. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
