About the Position: Incumbent serves as a Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger) performing a variety of assignments involving all aspects of project operations including natural resources, recreation and dam safety. Responsibilities include long and short range planning, administration, coordination and management of various project activities.

Duties

Inspect lake recreational sites such as, recreation areas, trails, boat ramps, and/or public use facilities to ensure safety of visitors. Participate in the recreation management of a water resource project. Assist with the administration of contracts such as, mowing, trash removal, facility clean-up, gate attendants, and/or law enforcement. Communicate water resource project information to other agencies and/or the visiting public through news releases, bulletin boards, interpretive programs, correspondence, or telephone calls. Educate the visiting public on a water resource project purpose, conditions, policies, and/or regulations. Enforce a public safety program through surveillance, maintenance of buoys, signs, and/or fences. Promote water safety program to ensure safe environment for visitors. Oversee the conservation and/or use of all lake natural resources. Participate in activities that protect threatened and/or endangered species. Participate in the development of natural resources management planning documents such as, master plans, operational management, short and/or long range plans

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess a valid, state issued driver's license.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather conditions.
  • Motorboat Operator's License within 12 months of employment.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Position subject to initial and random drug testing.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Minimum Qualifications Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) applying and executing Natural Resource Management actions for the conservation, preservation, and/or restoration of natural and cultural resources of a water resource project; and/or 2.) developing and implementing short and/or long range planning documents, operation management plans for recreation and park administration, forestry, fisheries and wildlife, soil conservation, boundary surveillance, historic properties protection, facility improvements, public education and interpretation, visitor assistance and public safety.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Natural Resource ManagementProject ManagementPublic Planning Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
