This position is located in the Office of the Administrator. The Deputy Chief of Staff serves as an advisor to the Administrator, Deputy Administrator, and Chief Operating Officer to establish and execute the FSIS strategic vision and manage change across FSIS.
Duties
Utilize a full range of qualitative and quantitative methods to assess and improve program operations.
Independently plan, design, and coordinate projects, studies and initiatives related to operations in the Office of the Administrator.
Identify and recommend solutions to critical issues affecting the administration of USDA program goals and objectives.
Represent the USDA at events, industry conferences, and other high-level meetings on sensitive food safety matters.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with management officials and program contacts to keep them informed of program goals and objectives.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-13 grade level for consideration for the GS-14 grade level.).
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level that demonstrates:
1. Extensive knowledge of FSIS program offices and field operations, Agency policies, regulations, and directives.
2. Experience coordinating and working with a variety of internal and external stakeholder groups and leadership across multiple FSIS program areas.
3. Experience planning, writing, and editing documents for a wide range of intended audiences.
