You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP ASSISTANT in the Electrical Shop, Production Resources Department of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will be responsible for prioritizing and ensuring the availability of shop resources to support both on and off Shipyard work. You will determine financial operating budget requirements and prepare appropriate justifications. You will develop preventative maintenance programs. You will assist in writing job descriptions, submitting requests for personnel actions, and other personnel related matters. You will oversee training of shop employees, ensuring workers attend training as scheduled, including on-the-job training.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: - Experience with human resources policies, principles, and regulations in various areas such as staffing, classification, labor relations, and employee relations. - Experience with management principles and theories for supervising administrative work. - Experience in investigating Shop practices, procedures and policies, identifying deficiencies and developing corrective actions. - Experience with the organization, policies and procedures, interfaces, communications, and operations of the Shipyard. - Experience in applying budget procedures which include cost classes and tracking methods.
