This position is located in the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Clinical Research (CCR), Pediatric Oncology Branch (POB).
Duties
Perform patient history and physical examinations; record pertinent patient data; assessment of patients to determine the need for medical attention; review of patient records to determine health status; and the preparation of patient summaries.
Provide teaching and guidance related to the client's current state of health and understanding of his/her disease and promote optimal performance.
Serve as clinical liaison to area hospices and/or home care agencies as needed or as appropriate.
Act as clinical liaison between inpatient and outpatient nurses to provide continuity of care to the hospitalized patient.
Provide expert advice and assistance in the design and development of clinical and basic research studies on assigned health issues.
Provide direction to nursing and other health care personnel in the implementation of clinical trials.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610 position, you must have:
A. a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND
B. passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN); AND
C. a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
In addition, in order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610 position at the GS-13 level, you must have at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing leadership in comprehensive nursing, preventative, and therapeutic health care service to patients and family members as a primary health resource; performing or requesting special screening developmental tests, or laboratory tests and interpreting the results; collecting patient data, analyzing trends, interpreting results, and suggesting possible alterations to treatments according to research protocol; coordinating care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings; and ensuring division adherence to ethical standards, protocol compliance, data management, and quality assurance processes.
