This position is with the Sitka Ranger District in Sitka, Alaska Serves as the Integrated Resources staff assistant to the District Ranger with responsibilities for planning/development, programming, implementation and administration of multiple resources. Duties

Coordinates multiples resource uses, activities and requirements with other resource management activities through participation in on-the-ground inspection of activities, road construction or other activities which affect resource responsibilities. Develops, implements, and administers the fisheries, wildlife and subsistence program and plans. Administers the soils and water resource management program. Directs the implementation of watershed restoration plans. Assists in the development and integration of the botany/invasive program. Develops the annual program of work determining budgeting, administrative and staffing needs. Reviews environmental documents for each program where applicable. Participates or observes on interdisciplinary teams for considering all alternatives in the resource project description and design. Participates in public relations events involving speaking engagements and field trips. Serves as the District partnership coordinator, developing relationships with community, user groups, and other agencies. Operates 18-30 feet long power boats for ocean travel. Performs technical and administrative supervision for 20% or less of responsibilities. As a field going position working in brown or black bear habitat, this position is required to be firearm certified for personal and/or crew safety. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Basic Requirement: GS-0401: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-09 grade level in the Federal service defined as performing two of the following: Conducted long and short-term studies and investigations on natural resource uses; Coordinated surveys and monitored, compiled, and analyzed biological data; Developed baseline information on birds, fish, and small animal habitat, growth limitations, and feeding requirements; OR Balanced competing public and private goals for recreational and commercial development and natural resource conservation. OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a biological or natural resource management program of study. OR A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e. more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.) described above that together meets the requirements for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
