You will serve as a PIPEFITTER SUPERVISOR I in the Pipe Shop (Code 960) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will simultaneously deliver, cost, schedule, and quality performance to customers. You will plan and execute complex Nuclear work. You will maintain contracts with the applicable employee unions. You will carry out EEO policies and communicate support.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Ability to understand the principles of contamination control and manrem control and reduction. Ability to utilize submarine and or surface ship systems components, compartments and tanks. Ability to provide expert advice and guidance on pipefitting processes and trade skill of management and mixed trade supervisors on assigned projects. Ability to participate in scheduling and establishment of work packing strategy. Ability to plan the use of workers, equipment facilities, materials and tools provided through the (AIM) the process for assigned units. Ability to conduct job briefing and readiness review with applicable nuclear instruction. Ability to assign work to journeyman. Abilityt to utilize information from blueprint, sketches, nuclear engineering work documents and job order to execute work operations.
