The Primary Purpose of the Position is: To provide routine technical and administrative support to the Administrative Officer and Service Chief for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS). Position will be the Section Safety Representative and alternate Timekeeper.
The Organizational Location of the Position is: Office of the Chief, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service, VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Dallas, TX.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Administrative Support:
Coordinates the Fee Basis and Locum Tenens Physician credentialing process for Ambulatory Care. Informs physicians of the requirements of the contract, mails tentative availability schedules, collates and coordinates prospective coverage dates.
Arranges possible coverage options and assists the AO and ACOS/AC in making the final schedule, affirms and assures that coverage was provided, maintains timekeeping data for these Fee Basis personnel. Serves as primary timekeeper for the fee basis providers and secondary timekeeper for staff.
Performs extensive research in multiple databases to compile pertinent databases to compile pertinent data for quarterly reports submitted to P&LMS Quality Management and to Qualify, Safety, and Value Service regarding active staff and fee basis providers, performance measure data, and Executive Office dashboard requirements.
Logistics/Safety:
Manages and provides budget support functions: Complies, gathers, and maintains financial data and initiates purchasing for equipment and other supply needs for P&LMS laboratories. Analyze operational procedures in order to make recommendations for improvements or reducing costs.
Coordinates the repair of P&LMS facilities and/or purchase of office supplies and equipment needed in the laboratory, office, and phlebotomy areas. Prepares and submits purchase requests and work orders for equipment purchase and/or repair, supplies, and services.
Non-VA Care:
Manages and monitors referral process for Non-VA Care, and maintains extensive interaction with contacts at other hospitals regarding funding for required services and procedures.
Responsible for submission of authorization forms and medical records to other facilities, coordinating scheduling for surgical procedures, and processing claims for rendered services. Responsible for maintaining spreadsheet and patient files to track and support budget activity.
Work Schedule: Mon. - Fri. 8:00 a.m.-4:30p.m. Tours can change to meet the needs of the section.
Telework: Ad-hoc as determined by the agency policy.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/26/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the federal service, that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position and that is typically in and/or related to the position being filled. Specialized experience includes: (1) Performs administrative and office automation duties; (2) Operation of reproduction equipment, record keeping, scheduling; and filing procedures; (3) Data processing, typing correspondences and other documents; (4) Compiles data for various reports, using data mining as necessary; and (5) Performs transcription for pathology reports.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than15 pounds.
