This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Use electrolytic and chemical processes, plates, coats, and treats surfaces of metals and metal alloys for purposes of protection, repair, maintenance, and fabrication of item.
Prepare the items for plating by grinding, buffing and polishing to a smooth surface.
Operate the equipment to accomplish the electrode-position of an adhering metallic coating of such metals as chromium, cadmium, nickel, copper, silver, and lead upon an electrode.
Determine work procedures and devises various types of plating racks, jigs, and fixtures to accommodate intricate shaped parts as required.
Prepare rough sketch of items to be fabricated outside the plating shop.
Ensure that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electroplater ~ without more than normal supervision. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as Using precision instruments such ammeters, voltmeters, etc. to make measurements to tolerance; Performing surface preparation using power or hand tools in preparing surfaces for application of high performance coating and Operating electroplating tools to perform tasks without causing danger to self or others. - Failure to meet this Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work performed requires frequent use of both hands to handle objects weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally objects weighing as much as 40 pounds, and frequent standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting at waist to shoulder level. Frequent pushing, pulling, loading, and unloading of heavy plating carts with assistance, then manipulating into load and/or unload stations on the automated plating lines.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside a shop area having adequate light, ventilation, and safety controls. Is frequently exposed to acid solutions, solvents, noxious fumes, excessive humidity, and a variety of caustic chemicals. Protection from exposure to burns, scalds, or skin irritation often requires the worker to wear uncomfortable safety equipment such as respirator, rubber gloves and aprons, goggles, or face shields. Hearing protection is also required.
