You will serve as a Computer Scientist in the Systems Integration Division (N64) in the Information Technology Department (N6) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will troubleshoot and maintain server and systems configurations to ensure their confidentiality, integrity, and availability. You will consult on network, application, and customer service issues to support computer systems' security an sustainability. You will monitor system performance, accessibility, integrity, efficiency, and operational availability. You will maintain cybersecurity compliance for Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Windows servers and installed middleware software components. You will assist with the creation of schedules, Plans of Actions and Milestones, budget and contract documentation using technical expertise.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position in specialty area code 451 System Administration.
  • As a condition of employment, incumbents of the position are required to comply with the DON Cyber IT/CSWF Program requirements of SECNAV M-5239.2, which include:
  • Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (described in SECNAV M-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position you are assigned.
  • Participate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2. A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by the employee and supervisor.
  • Overtime may be required to meet emergent customer needs.
  • The incumbent may be called in during non-duty hours for an operational need.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GS-11: Experience installing server and systems configurations (hardware and software). Experience preparing and maintaining engineering documentation such as configuration guides, Standard Operating Procedures, etc. Experience managing system/server resources such as performance, capacity, and availability. Experience maintaining cybersecurity compliance. GS-09: Experience with various software administration tasks as it relates to installing, configuring, testing and the monitoring of web server technologies, or relational database management systems (RDBMS). Experience maintaining cybersecurity compliance of all supported environments according to the organization guidelines and requirements. Experience installing commercial software. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
Bachelor's degree in computer science
OR
Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Substitution of Education:
GS-11:
Successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree
OR
Possession of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

GS-09:
Successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree

Possession of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
