Duties

You will fabricate new parts and modify part when replacements are not available. You will work with various metals, including magnesium, honeycomb material, alloys, stainless steel, and copper sheet. You will use templates and patterns to shape, construct, and assemble objects. You will use shop tools and equipment, such as, hand or powered crimping, burring, turning, and beading machines and soldering and welding equipment.

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A SHEET METAL MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Opening, Adjusting, troubleshooting, repairing and installing a wide variety of locking device; 2) Repairing or replacing defective parts; 3) Inspecting locks and locking devices; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches and schematics; and 5) Using a wide variety of hand and power tools associated with sheet metal.
