The incumbent of this position is a Maintenance Mechanic in the Mechanical Systems section of the Engineering Service at the Charlie Norwood VAMC in Augusta. GA.
Duties
Knowledge of work practices and methods involved with a variety of trades. Plumbing, steam fitting, sheet metal, welding, electric, electronic - at the journeyman level
Ability to troubleshoot, utilize test equipment and apply problem solving techniques in a timely manner.
Proficiency in the use of complex measuring instruments, operate tools and equipment, or machines, of varying degrees of difficulty.
Ability to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, sketches, specifications in the installation, modification, diagnose & troubleshoot and repair of systems.
Maintain and properly use all appropriate test equipment such s thread and feeler gauges, calipers, micrometers (both inside and outside), test lamps, ohmmeters and multi-testers.
Diagnose equipment and support systems problems through troubleshooting processes as to repair complex electronic medical equipment.
Reviews instruction materials or prepare own specifications and necessary sketches to meet special repairs when parts are not available.
Knowledge of all codes, standards, and regulations regarding the delivery of Utility Services in a hospital setting
Responsible for knowing and practicing good workmanship, customer service & all safety rules & regulations.
Repair and maintain fire door operators/closers automatic roll up doors and sensors.(Troubleshoots, diagnose electric solenoids and transformers).
Ability to plan & layout work using blueprints, specifications, drawings, as-builts and work orders.
Maintain and properly use all appropriate test equipment such s thread and feeler gauges, calipers, micrometers (both inside and outside), test lamps, ohmmeters and multi-testers
Verify the correct malfunctions in said equipment using various measuring devices and test equipment.
Ability is demonstrated be experience which indicates the ability to perform a complex modifications from start to finish by use of manufacturer's request, technical manuals, applicable blue prints and / or sketches.
Evaluate and understand the operation of complex hospital systems and PM programs, to include the ability to instruct others in technical processes
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 6:00am-3:30pm

Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, extension ladders and lifts in tunnels that require lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes, sometimes in excess of 50 pounds. He/she is subjected to strain due to lack of movement, such as standing in place, crouching, or stooping for extended periods of time.
