The incumbent of this position is a Maintenance Mechanic in the Mechanical Systems section of the Engineering Service at the Charlie Norwood VAMC in Augusta. GA.

Duties

Diagnose equipment and support systems problems through troubleshooting processes as to repair complex electronic system components which supports medical equipment and systems (e.g., microprocessor controlled equipment, electronic scales, electronic beds, electronic mattress controls, nurse calls, electronic exam tables/chairs, electronic surgical tables, electronic patient lifts, medical and lab sterilizers, therapy equipment, and mechanical/electronic stretchers.) Ability to troubleshoot, utilize test equipment and apply problem solving techniques in a timely manner. Knowledge of codes, standards and regulations related to associated trades. Ability to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, sketches, specifications in the installation, modification, diagnose & troubleshoot and repair of systems. Maintain and properly use all appropriate test equipment such as thread and feeler gauges, ohmmeters, multi-testers & pressure gauges. Diagnose equipment and support systems problems through troubleshooting processes as to repair complex electronic system components which supports Kitchen equipment. Test systems and equipment after completing work for proper circulation, operation, flow, pressure & leak-free joints. Maintain current knowledge of new techniques, codes and equipment associated with applicable trades. Operate a wide variety of machine tools including, but not limited to, drill pressed, grinders, hydraulic presses, measuring instruments, dial calipers, dial indicators, inside and outside calipers, electrical test equipment, volt, ohm, amps, capacitor, diode tester, Huntron, ect. Responsible for knowing and practicing good workmanship, customer service & all safety rules & regulations. Repair and maintain fire door operators/closers automatic roll up doors and sensors.(Troubleshoots, diagnose electric solenoids and transformers). Ability to plan & layout work using blueprints, specifications, drawings, as-builts and work orders. Ability to install, modify & repair electrical conduit, outlet boxes, switches, receptacles & light fixtures safely and in accordance with code standards. Ability to plan, layout, install, modify, renovate & repair with little to no supervision. Ability to program, install, troubleshoot, connect and adjust electronic controlling devices such as air actuators, diffusers, dampers, sensors, temperature monitors and lighting controls for HVAC, electrical and kitchen equipment and devices. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD09898A Physical Requirements: The incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, extension ladders and lifts in tunnels that require lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes, sometimes in excess of 50 pounds. He/she is subjected to strain due to lack of movement, such as standing in place, crouching, or stooping for extended periods of time.
