Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to provide a well-rounded Sports and Fitness Program for authorized personnel.
Monitors and supervises all fitness and sports programming and activities under the guidance of the Fitness and Sports Director.
Assists the Fitness coordinator in a well-rounded fitness program to accommodate the need of personnel on the weight management program.
Submits completed documentation and forms, for procurement of materials and equipment associated with ongoing fitness and sports programs to the Fitness and Sports Director for approval.
Performs routine equipment maintenance according to maintenance plan in addition to applying light oil to select moving parts of the CYBEX equipment.
Prepares and inspects and maintains sports field, and other recreational areas and enclosures that fall under the control of the Fitness and Sports program, for scheduled activities as needed.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series 0189.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Assisting sports and fitness program director ensure the program provides opportunities for varsity, intramural, and self-directed programs; Assisting the Fitness coordinator in a well-rounded fitness program to accommodate the need of personnel on the weight management program; Instructing individuals in the proper use of fitness equipment. Track and record individualized fitness programs.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-04 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-05 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Working knowledge of general office administration and clerical procedures, maintain reservation calendars, and manage/maintain files and office forms.
2. Knowledge of military sports programs, procedures of leagues and tournament play & official sports rules.
3. Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to administrative support, including locally developed operating instructions, directives and forms.
4. Ability to learn inventory control and cash handling procedures. Some managerial skills required.
5. Practical knowledge of the rules and procedures of recreation activities and skill in recreation equipment and materials.
6. Ability to operate equipment to prepare playing areas for competition. Ability to administer first aid and CPR.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
