This position serves as the Assistant Chief for Health Administration Service (HAS) at Veterans Affairs Pacific Island Health Care System (VAPIHCS). Assists the Chief of HAS in managing medical administration operations and supports the mission, vision and guiding principles of the Medical Center by promoting quality performance improvement, efficiency and effectiveness in an environment committed to serving during regular and off-tours of duty.
Duties
As the Medical Administration Officer (Assist Chief), you will:
Manage all patient administrative activities supporting multiple primary, medical, surgical, and specialty programs throughout the hospital and clinical staff
Provide management services and technical counsel necessary to meet procedural, legal, and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patient and to achieve maximum utilization of treatment and care facilities
Provide an administrative climate in which physicians can care for patients with an awareness of the administrative implications of their actions
Collaborate in a team-oriented, customer-driven, professional environment to develop new models of care
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7am-3:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/18/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience include: . You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Providing management services and technical counsel; Identify and correct problems pertaining to capturing accurate workload information; Interpret and apply guidelines with minimal reference to supervisor; Manage all programs within Health Administration Service at a Medical Center; Formulate and issue policies related to the broad area of patient care supervising staff ranging from entry level to section managers.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Some walking throughout the medical facility from the administrative office to the medical center. Occasional travel to the CBOCs may also be required.
