This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the position: Incumbent will serve as a WG-5306-10, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the Directorate of Installation Services, Public Works Division, Facilities Maintenance Branch.

Duties

Install and repair large climate-controlled systems and direct digital control systems which provide a variety of air conditioning functions. Test and make complete repairs on numerous complex equipment such as super heaters, preheaters, economizers, feed water regulators, pollution control devices, generators, steam turbines, etc. Dismantle, repair, and reassemble pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, and evaporators. Install and repair large and complex heating units and systems composed of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment which produce steam and hot water for distribution.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation, NACI required.
• Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• Duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period.
• Must obtain and maintain Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
• Must obtain and maintain Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification, Certificate as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Sub Part F.
• Must obtain and maintain an Ariel Platform Certification.
• You must posses a Universal Chloro-Floro-Carbon - Hydro-Chloro-Floro-Carbon (CFC-HCFC) license issued by a certified agency to test and verify knowledge of refrigerants and the harm they can impose on the environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common duties associated with installing and repairing large systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions. Install and repair a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and-air conditioning units and systems, install and repair large and complex heating units and systems composed of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment, and diagnose the cause of faulty air conditioning and heating equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Incumbent carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds. Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Required to stand, stoop, stretch, bend, climb, and kneel for prolonged periods while making repairs in hard-to-reach places. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside as well as outdoors in different types of weather. Incumbent is subject to frequent temperature changes and is exposed to gas and smoke, dust, scalding water, fumes, cuts, burns, and electrical shock. Protective devices are provided as required.
