About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Work independently or with a team of air conditioning, welders, electricians, and maintenance mechanics.
Maintain, operate, and repair chiller systems, small to industrial humidification and dehumidification systems, clean room systems, and industrial ventilation and exhaust systems.
Test, repair, modify, operate, maintain, overhaul, and calibrate small to large industrial air conditioning units.
Maintain drain lines, steam lines, and small to industrial electric, gas, or oil.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation NACI T1.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Business travel up to 25%.
- Position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Must obtain and maintain an Annual Asbestos Certification.
- Must obtain and maintain a Material Handling Equipment License.
- Must obtain and maintain a Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.
- Must obtain and maintain a Powder Actuated Device License.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. (1) Install and overhaul a variety of A) Complex air conditioning systems designed to reach critical and extreme conditions and B) Complex heating systems, (2) Interpret and apply guidance such as the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, and engineering diagrams in the performance work assignments; and (3) Diagnose the cause of faulty air conditioning and heating equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
The employee lifts, curries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The employee works indoors and outdoors on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from facemasks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Subject to possible burns from refrigerants. Works new moving parts of equipment and machinery, energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, loud noises, and toxic fumes, which could cause cuts, burns, and respiratory ailments. May be subject to sudden and frequent temperature changes. May be required to wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, ear protection, and hard hats.
